Felix is the firstborn in a family of five boys and one girl. He lost hearing at the age of three after becoming seriously ill with malaria. He grew up with his father, who works in construction and earns approximately one dollar each day. His mother lives in a rural area which is about 400km from Nairobi and provides little support to the family.

Finding a job in Nairobi has proved not to be easy for Felix’s father. Still, he worked hard to stay in Nairobi and provide his son an education at the Humble Hearts school, one of the few schools for deaf children in Kenya.

Following graduation from Humble Hearts, Felix had the opportunity to attend the Karen Technical Institute. With a strong desire to be a chef, own a restaurant, and train other deaf people, Felix studied hard for two years and graduated with a certificate in food and beverage services. Felix is currently employed by a Catholic University in their dining center. In his free time, Felix loves to play soccer, and his favorite color, like all other boys, is blue.
