Valentine’s heart is in the right place, and when she grows up, she wants to make sure that yours is too – her dream is to become a cardiologist. The second of four children, Valentine helped care for her siblings when her mother found occasional work in local factories. But from a young age, Valentine was very eager to go to school, so when her mother could no longer face the financial burden of caring for her children, Humble Hearts took Valentine in (her siblings are now living with extended family members in rural communities). Valentine’s favorite subjects are math and science, and she is already looking toward her future health care studies. Valentine does not have a sponsor, so she needs either one sponsor at $30/month or $360/year, or two sponsors at $15/month or $180/year each.

Raising a family in the slums of Nairobi, where poverty is widespread and opportunities are few and far between, is challenging. Raising a deaf child in a culture that sees deafness as a curse upon the family can be nearly impossible.…
